Cambodian Shareholder Seeks Justice Over Alleged Fraud by YY Capital Chairman
(Phnom Penh) – A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally approached the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia, seeking legal intervention following serious allegations against the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei.
The shareholder claims that Yamada Taihei misused his position to commit acts of embezzlement and breach of trust, including inflating the purchase prices of real estate properties, resulting in the alleged misappropriation of approximately USD 4 million for personal benefit and that of his associates.
Further allegations describe unilateral decisions bypassing shareholder authority, creating fictitious transactions including loans exceeding USD 7 million, and using the names of well-known corporations to mislead investors. Documents were reportedly forged, and significant sums were funneled through shell companies, with some money allegedly transferred abroad to a bank account in the name of his wife, Ye Jun.
Investigations also suggest that Yamada Taihei established multiple shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, appointing nominees to act as company representatives while retaining direct control over all financial operations.
In Cambodia, Yamada Taihei faces at least two ongoing criminal cases, with court orders freezing several assets and bank accounts. Investigations are also reported in other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, covering alleged embezzlement, document forgery, money laundering, and breach of trust.
Through letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice, the investor urges Cambodian authorities and courts to conduct thorough, impartial investigations, uphold the rule of law, and ensure accountability. The investor also raised concerns over possible interference by influential individuals, which could compromise justice, intimidate witnesses, or enable the accused to evade responsibility.
